Energy Shift Southeast Asia

Philippines

Nearly three quarters of the Philippines’ energy supply in 2021 was generated by coal and oil, while renewable energy contributed less than a fifth of the energy mix. This is despite a comprehensive RE law, the first in Southeast Asia, that was passed in the country more than a decade ago.

The Philippines continues to be at the forefront of fossil gas expansion in Southeast Asia. With 34 gas-fired power plant projects in the pipeline and a total proposed capacity of 37.95 GW, the Philippines has the largest number of gas projects in development in the region.
